Raw mouth!!

I switched to this toothpaste in an attempt to calm down a recently crowned tooth. I literally have been thinking I must have some mouth cancer or other serious illness! Within days of starting to use it, I developed a variety of mouth issues- extreme dryness, rawness all over the inside of my mouth, little bumps that burst and made sore, red areas, swollen lips, swollen tongue, swollen salivary glands!! I saw my dentist and went on an antibiotic, but the problems continued. It finally hit me today that it could be the toothpaste, so I did a google search and found this page! Never again will this toothpaste touch my mouth!

Hi, I wondered how you’re getting over this? I also had extreme dryness and although it’s very slowly improving it’s been nearly two months and I want it gone!! Any info on how long it took to recover would be appreciated, thank you.

I normally use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth, but your Repair and Protect toothpaste causes me to lose my sense of taste. What a *** product. I'm throwing it away and going back to Colgate.

Tongue burning and loss of taste

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I started using sensodyne a week ago. I used it for 2 days and started feeling like i burnt my tongue. Then the 3rd day i lost my taste almost completely. So i stopped using it 2 days ago and the burning is slowing and the taste is slowly coming back. I can not believe they are still selling this product after all these chemical burn situations.

The inside of my mouth is now covered in ulcers and swollen under my tongue. My lips are tingling and swollen. I used Sensodyne as directed and rinsed after use but this condition still developed over the course of some days.

Severe reaction to Sensodyne toothpaste

I have also been experiencing strange things in my mouth starting a couple weeks ago. The inner side of my lower lip and under my tongue.

Kind of a strange rawness the almost feels burned. And the area under my tongue is raw. Thought maybe it was the toothpaste last week and stopped using. Started to clear up and mouth felt better.

Last night used again and woke up in the middle of the night with the underside of my tongue so swollen that I could barely talk. Stayed that way all night. Swelling finally started to subside mid day and now it’s just raw feeling and super sensitive. My salivary glands are running overtime as well.

I had used one tube of sensodyne repair and protect with no problems. The next tube I opened was strange looking.

Very “runny” and not like normal toothpaste. Only got the reactions after starting to use that tube

Your new formula sucks! Rapid relief, have used it for years, no problem, what did you do?

It feels warm in my mouth and leaves a sort of numbing feeling on gums, mouth and lips.

Please bring back the original formula. Till then I’m using a different product

Your reaction sounds the same as mine, my mouth is full of sores and the tongue pain came in the middle of the night! I would guess its cos the saliva dries up whilst we sleep, and so the chemicals in the toothpaste don't get washed away....

My entire mouth is ulcered due to Sensodyne rapid relief

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I had a large filling recently where the tooth was sensitive afterwards. My dentist recommended Sensodyne toothpaste for it. I’d never tried this brand before (and this dentist is new to me as well - I’d recently moved to a new state), but trustingly following his orders, I picked up the rapid relief Sensodyne. I was happy for a few days because the tooth pain was gone. Then I got the ulcers. They’re horrifically huge and painful and all over my gums, mouth, throat. I cannot brush my teeth as the pain is too great. I went without brushing a few days as a result, and gargling with sea salt water the lesions got better. I thought I had a virus that caused the lesions, so when they got a bit better with my home remedy sea salt and water, i went back to brushing w this toothpaste — all the sores came back worse than ever! That’s when I made the connection: the toothpaste causes these chemical burns all over the inside of my mouth. So now I’m googling to see, am I the only one? Nope, turns out I’m not! Well, I’m outraged by this! How is this company legally able to sell such a harmful product.??? And how are they not being sued and the product permanently recalled??????

How long did the pain last? I have the same thing.

I don't remember exactly how long the pain lasted once I finally and completely stopped using the product -- a few weeks, I think? During that time, gargling with sea salt and water was the only thing that gave me relief!

And I'm so sorry you're going through this as well. I remain firmly convinced this product is a serious health hazard that *should not* be on the market imho.

Thank you, I agree, horrible!

Also -- apparently because I posted my review of Sensodyne and its harmful effects, the massive multinational company that makes Sensodyne somehow tracked down my mailing address and began sending letters to me, demanding that I sign an authorization release that would give them free, unfettered access to *all of my lifetime history of medical records.* They claimed this would help them "evaluate the product." I was extremely uncomfortable with the idea of some random giant company rifling through my entire personal medical history and I don't know who would be comfortable with that. It seems like an invasion of personal privacy, and beyond the scope needed for a claim of "evaluating" their product and its effects.

I declined.

They continued sending letters. Beware of this.

Sore tongue

My favourite sensodyne toothpaste seems to have disappeared, so I have been using a different sensodyne toothpaste, it's hurting my tongue and leaving painful sores in my mouth! Avoid them like the plague, I'm going to try another companies that makes toothpaste, but I will contact Sensodyne and complain.

Painful mouth

I had purchased sensodyne toothpaste in the USA and with in a week got mouth ulcers and painful tongue, checks and gums. So I threw it away. I purchased another tube months later in NZ got the same thing. Have been using this product for years something has obviously been changed. Once you stop using the product it goes away. I still have the tube for testing. Fix this problem and please explain!!

Painful. Peeling. Poor me.

I’ve used sensodyne before and decided to try the pronamel today and boy oh boy is my mouth a mess. The roof of my mouth is peeling and sore. My tongue hurts and my gums are so sore. About an hour after brushing, my teeth and gums hurt so bad. I know it’s not a toothache because a week ago I had a dentist appointment and I don’t have any cavities. The pain was horrible, and because I didn’t think it was my toothpaste at first, I thought maybe I was having an oral allergy to something, so I brushed again to see if it would help. It on,y made it worse. And now my throat hurts. Ugh. Don’t use this toothpaste.

It stung

Have been using Sensodyne Rapid relief for years, but when all the new tubes and flavours came out in Australia, it actually stung my sensitive tooth. I actually found myself having to rinse out my mouth after brushing which defeated the purpose. I ended up with dry lips that they started peeling. I went to Bali and bought some old stock they still had and not one issue and my tooth was no longer sensitive. Why change a good thing that is spoken about so highly....not anymore I am afraid.
